Apprentice Funeral Director/Embalmer or Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer

Position Description:
Small, rural Hingham FH serving the area since 1882 looking for full -time director or apprentice to assist in every-day functions. The employee would serve as second to the owner/director in all aspects of funeral service.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in mortuary science or current enrollment in mortuary program.
  • Must have MA drivers license in good standing.
  • Must be computer savvy, good knowledge of the funeral rules and regulations set out by the state.
  • The candidate must be able to lift 100lbs to assist on house/nursing home/hospital removals of decedents.

Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow, Idaho has an immediate opening for a long-term Funeral Director/Embalmer or Apprentice (completed school/NBE).

Position:
Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow, Idaho is seeking an honest, compassionate, hardworking individual to join our team as a Full time Funeral Director/Embalmer or Apprentice.

Position Responsibilities:
The primary Funeral Director/Embalmer duties include; removals, initial contact with families, arrangement conferences and follow-up, directing services, embalming and final preparation of body for service or cremation, and general cleaning and housekeeping duties. The “ideal” candidate would be able to “hit the ground running” as well as being willing to learn.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to manage time, identify and understand deadlines and be highly organized. The respectful and safe use of facilities, autos and equipment. Contribute ideas and talents as a valued member of the team.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Associate Degree in Mortuary Science or related filed
  • Experience: Funeral Director: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Mortician or Funeral Directors License or ability to obtain within 12 months of Hire
  • Must have, or be able to obtain a valid Idaho State Driver’s License at the time of hire.
  • Must be Insurable under the Company’s auto insurance
  • Ability to Sit; Stand; and lift up to 150 lbs

Part-time Funeral Assistant Position

Description:

  • Assist in lining up funeral attendees’ vehicles in funeral procession.
  • Take names of funeral attendees for car list.
  • Assist in carrying casket/serving as pallbearer as necessary.
  • Assist in transferring funeral floral arrangements to flower car.
  • Drive funeral vehicles (hearse, limo, flower car, etc.).
  • Serve as dress help during funerals (assist in bringing casket and/or pallbearers into and out of church).
  • Set up funeral flowers, assist in carrying and setting up casket, and distribute flowers and/or other handouts at graveside.
  • Assist in breaking down and cleaning up funeral home after funeral services as needed.

Requirements:

  • Education: High School diploma/ GED
  • Experience in working funerals is beneficial but not required. 
  • Ability to lift 50 – 75 lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to take guidance and direction from funeral directors and other funeral home staff.

Funeral Director

Cunningham-Parker-Johnson FH (Charleston, WV )

Responsibilities:  

  • Arrange and conduct funeral and memorial ceremonies in a professional, organized and caring manner and in keeping with company policies and procedures
  • Supervise and care for the deceased in a respectful manner while performing a variety of tasks which include - removals and transfers, embalming, cosmetology, hairstyling, dressing and casketing; coordinating and assisting with funeral service, and visitation, delivery of flowers, caskets, urn, photos and other personal keepsakes or mementos of client families, setting of chairs and the removal, proper care and storage of these items
  • Respectfully prepare remains of deceased in keeping with Company and Regulatory requirements
  • Promote a safe work environment by being aware of and practicing universal precautions and adopting general principles of safe conduct
  • Ensure adherence to all professional, municipal, provincial/ state and federal licensing authority, regulations and rules applicable to the provision of funeral services
  • Supervise the parking of cars, ushering, driving funeral vehicles, assisting at chapel and church services, assisting at the cemetery, floral delivery, picking up supplies, participating in special functions and other duties, as required
  • Accurately prepare all documents related to funeral services, cremations, and maintenance
  • Assist with the maintenance of vehicles, the facility and property; receive caskets and other funeral home supplies as well as place into inventory and carrying out any other responsibilities that may be reasonably delegated by management
  • General maintenance of building, grounds and vehicles and general housekeeping duties as per Cleaning Schedule and Maintenance log
  • Answer phones, preparing reports as necessary and participating in staff meetings
  • This position may be asked to perform other duties and special projects as requested by management 

Education and/or Experience:

  • West Virginia State Licensed Funeral Director
  • Requires graduation from an accredited school of embalming or mortuary science 

Required Skills:

  • Ability to multitask in large volume firms with multi locations
  • High level of integrity, dedication, and desire to succeed
  • Proficient with computers and technology
  • Must possess valid state driver's license
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and direct sales team to achieve sales and profit goals by taking the qualified sales leads we provide and converting them into customers
  • Recruit, train and motivate top sales representatives
